Homeschooling 101 - Part C - Suggested Syllabus Continued

This is a suggested syllabus for 6th through 12th Grade.  Most is what I've done with our sons.  Some suggestions are what I'd use in a "do over" situation.

6^th GRADE:  Bible, Handwriting, Spelling, Reading, Math, Science, History

Bible – Ruth, 1 & 2 Samuel, 1 & 2 Kings

Handwriting – Italic Handwriting Book D

Spelling – Spelling Power

Reading – 4 Progeny Press Study Guides

Math – BJU (Bob Jones University) Grade 6

Science – BJU Grade 6

History – Middle Ages, Renaissance, Reformation; also use “real books”

7^th GRADE:  Bible, Writing, Spelling, Literature, Math, Science, History

Bible – Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Lamentations

Writing – Creative Writing (I have created a curriculum that can be emailed for $10)

Spelling – Spelling Power

Literature – 4 Progeny Press Study Guides for Jr. High (American Lit)

Math – BJU Grade 7

Science – BJU Grade 7

History – Alpha Omega Publishing Lifepac Bible Grade 8 (Bible/church history)

8^th GRADE:  Bible, Grammar, Literature, Math Science, History

Bible – Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther, Job

Grammar – Easy Grammar Plus

Literature – 4 Progeny Press Study Guides for Jr. High (World/British Lit)

Math – BJU Grade 8

Science – BJU Life Science

History – Texas History (your state history) 

FRESHMAN:  Bible, Grammar, English, Math, Science, History, Phys Ed, 2 Electives, 
         Fine Arts

Bible –Hebrews, James, 1 & 2 Peter, 1, 2, & 3 John, Jude

Grammar – Easy Grammar Plus

English – Composition / Essay Writing

Math – BJU Algebra 1

Science – BJU Physical Science

History – World & U.S. Geography (Around the World & YWAM Maps are what I combined)

Phys Ed – Health (AO Lifepac); sport or working out or…

Electives – This should be something your child is interested in & that will help them in the future (typing, home ec, Dave Ramsey’s Personal Finance, current events, Biblical Archaeology (I wrote a curriculum), etc)

Fine Arts – art or music lessons

SOPHOMORE:  Bible Literature, Math, Science, History, Phys Ed, 2 Electives, Fine Art

Bible – All of Paul's Epistles

Literature – American 4 Progeny Press

Math – BJU Algebra 2

Science – BJU Chemistry

History – BJU American History

Phys Ed, Fine Art – See last year

2 Electives – Driver’s Ed, College & Career Planner for Homeschoolers, plus 1 more elective

Plus they need 1 semester of Speech their Sophomore or Junior Year

JUNIOR:  Bible, Literature, Math, Science, History, 2 Electives

Bible – Read the Bible Chronologically

Literature – British / World 4 Progeny Press

Math – BJU Geometry

Science – BJU Biology

History – BJU World History

2 Electives - 1 needs to be ACT or SAT prep

SENIOR:  Bible, English, Math, Science, History, 2 Electives

Bible – "Proverbs the Fountain of Life" by Postive Action for Christ; Journal of Psalms

English – Research Paper; review grammar & vocabulary (BJU)

Math – BJU Consumer Math or if math/science major Trig

Science – BJU Physics or Human A & P

History – Economics (Whatever Happened to Penny Candy?); 
               Government (Notgrass Publishing) they need 1 semester of each 
2 Electives - 1 needs to be ACT or SAT prep
